The Electrical Training Program at InterCoast Colleges offers an opportunity for individuals in California who are interested in beginning entry-level work in the electrical field. With a strong focus on hands-on lab experiences and practical skills, this program is designed to help students meet industry expectations while working under the supervision of a certified electrician.

Electrical Program Overview

InterCoast Colleges’ Electrical Training Program is approved by the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR). Students who enroll must apply for an Electrical Trainee (ET) Card, which allows them to accumulate required on-the-job hours under a licensed electrician.

The program includes 900 clock hours and can typically be completed in less than a year, depending on the individual student’s schedule and commitment.

⚠️ Please note: InterCoast does not offer electrical licenses. However, graduates who complete the program may be eligible to sit for the California Journeyman Electrician Exam after completing the necessary work hours.

Training Structure

The program is designed to blend classroom theory with hands-on learning experiences. Students gain exposure to a range of electrical applications, helping them build a solid foundation in the field.

Topics Covered Include:

• National Electrical Code (NEC) and OSHA Standards

• Residential and Commercial Wiring

• Conduit Bending and Blueprint Reading

• Electrical Tools and Safety Practices

• Basic AC/DC Theory and Circuit Design

This training does not include an apprenticeship program. However, students may use the skills developed in the program to begin gaining supervised work hours required for licensure in California.

Certificate of Completion and Student Support

Students who successfully complete the program receive a Certificate of Completion, which is not a certification or license. This certificate may help demonstrate readiness to begin working in the field under the proper supervision.

Career Outlook in California

Those who complete the program and go on to fulfill the required 8,000 hours of supervised work may apply to take the Journeyman Electrician Exam in California.
